Molly and Ozzie's Homemade Wedding

Thinking about a handmade and extremely personalized-themed wedding? We have a special wedding feature today, Molly and Ozzie!

Molly and Ozzie held their wedding at a beautiful venue in downtown Wilmington, NC at Saint Thomas Preservation Hall. The place is a gorgeous historic building that was formerly a Catholic church, but over the years has been transformed into an event space. There were stunning stained-glass windows, exposed brick, and lots of space. Both their ceremony and reception were held there.

There were close to about 160 guests; plenty of family and friends. Molly got her dress at David's Bridal. She found a gorgeous beaded lace tea-length dress, and knew immediately that it was hers! For shoes, Molly had ivory pumps with a teal heel, and a beautiful peacock feather painted on the sides.

All of Molly and Ozzie’s ceremony music was played on the organ by Molly’s Uncle Steve. She didn't want traditional wedding music, so instead she picked some of their favorite Beatles songs. They featured songs like “Let It Be,” "With a little help from my friends," "Here Comes the Sun," and of course, "All You Need is Love." The guests enjoyed hearing familiar music that they could sing along to.

Molly’s ceremony included a dedication to those who had passed: her maternal grandparents, her paternal grandparents’, her maternal grandfather, and her sister Emily. They set up a special alter of photos and candles. In memory of her sister, Molly had a special bouquet made for her, signifying her as an honorary bridesmaid.

Molly’s other bouquets and boutonnieres were very unique. She wanted to have something that would last forever, and that was fun and different and playful. She searched Etsy to find paper bouquets and boutonnieres, made from sheet music (courtesy of "Dana's Paper Flowers"). And not just any sheet music, but the music of "In My Life" by the Beatles, which also happens to be the couple’s song and the song that was played for their first dance.

Molly and Ozzie also wrote their own vows. Their wedding programs were specially created by Ozzie's mother. She is a talented stationery designer and wedding invitation specialist at a local shop. She also created their Save the Dates, invitations, and programs.

As for wedding themes, Molly wanted to center it around their names: Ozzie's real name is Chris, but she met him as Ozzie, a name used by close friends. Together they chose a celebrity couple name, "Mozzie," and it became a very "Mozzie" wedding! The two love the color purple and are both are proud graduates of UNC-Wilmington, who's main school color is teal. They decided to play off of those colors and stick with purple, teal, ivory, and burlap brown.

Molly’s mother played a huge part on the creative side of the wedding. She made hair clips for all of the bridesmaids and flower girls to wear; burlap, lace, and tool flowers glued to hair clips. She also made the ring bearer's pillow; a burlap pillow with lace sewed around it with ribbon and a flower. The table centerpieces were also hand done, mason jars with burlap, lace, raffia, and peacock feathers fastened around the jars. Her mother also made paper medallions to put into each jar. Each was unique and full of bright and beautiful colors to mimic a peacock feather. There were straw wreaths in a canvas fabric, and personalized to display the first letter of our the couple’s names to hang from the wreaths. Last but not least, Molly’s mother created adorable bird cake toppers and stamped Molly and Ozzie’s initials in it.

The wedding had a special guestbook; a fingerprint guestbook. It was hand painted with a tree and two little birds in the branches. All of the guests stamped their fingers and signed their names. There was plenty more decoration to the party: there were candy jars and favor bags, "MOZZIE" cocktail napkins, mason jar drinking glasses, striped paper straws, cupcakes and cake made by a dear friend, and to top it off the get-away truck was decorated by their dear friends!

A big congratulation to the happy couple!
