Jenny Schartner from Captured Photography

Doing what you love is important! Today we spoke with Jenny from Captured Photography about her beautiful work. Jenny explains what she loves most about her job, and how important a relationship is between a bride and her photographer. Also, she just received a Two Bright Lights 2013 Editor's Choice Award! If you're a bride in Florida, the Caribbean, and the Northeast, you should check out her work! Enjoy!

What initially interested you into photography?

I originally worked in television news and have a major in journalism. I think I love photography because it is such a beautiful way to tell a story. I get to preserve memories for others. Itís a pretty sweet gig.

How long have you been professionally shooting?

I started Captured Photography by Jenny back in 2007. And jumped in to it full time once my oldest daughter, Ellie, was born in 2008. Honestly, it was super scary and intimidating to be a business owner at first. One thing led to another and after 5 years, I canít even begin to describe how happy I am to do this.

What was your favorite wedding to work on?

Oh man, I don't think I can pick just one. Obviously, the weddings were we really get to know the couple are always special. It's always fun to work on those, because you love the people in the images!

What is your photographic style - traditional, photojournalistic, etc.?

If I had to describe my style and tasteÖ it would probably be fresh, crisp, cleanÖ I love simplicity. I want my photos to be creative and modernÖ but still have a classic, timeless touch.

Do you shoot in mostly color, black and white, or both?

Both!

What is your weapon/camera of choice?

I use Canon equipment. The Canon Mark 3 is what both me and my second photographer use to shoot weddings.

Film or Digital?

Mainly Digital.

If you could work alongside any one photographer who would it be?

I love Millie Holloman, mainly for her business skills. I would love to learn more on that end from her!

Do you have any advice for brides looking for photographers?

Understand what your budget is for your wedding and then decide how much of it you feel should be put towards photography. But donít just stop there. Understand what style of photography you like. Check out the photographerís portfolio and recent weddings. And be sure the photographer you are interested in does quality work every time. Then, meet with them. Get to know each other. After all, they will be with you the entire wedding day. You want to be sure they are easy to work with and helpful.
